The Remains of the Day - A Literary Work

Thursday 11 May 2023

This week, we are pleased to begin to offer you an extensive body of teaching materials to support you and your students as you read Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel, The Remains of the Day. The novel won the Booker Prize in 1989, and the Nobel laureate, Ishiguro, is on the IB’s Prescribed Reading List (PRL). The pages have been written specifically with your IB students in mind, and address such things as global issues and the requirements of IB examinations. The pages – as they are developed and published – are organised into before, during, and after reading sections. The tasks and activities are directed to your students for their use. There are more materials than you are likely to need, and you should therefore decide what you would like to include as you teach and study the novel. As always, it is important that you read the novel and our materials to ensure that they are appropriate to your own local context. We hope that you and your students enjoy working with the materials!

Today, assuming you subscribe to the site, you can access the first six pages of pre-reading materials – see below. In the coming weeks, we will add (and add) to the range of available materials.
