In this week’s post, we wanted to provide an exemplar based on a graphic novel for the Higher Level Essay.  There are so many questions when writing about a graphic novel.

How do students incorporate a panel or panels as evidence?  How do they cite their source(s)?  How do they use terminology specific to graphic novels to analyze the work?  And so much more.

The point of this exemplar is to answer try to answer some or all of those questions!

While the exemplar is not excellent, it does get the formatting right.  Students will be well-served to study this exemplar to see how to correctly embed evidence into the essay itself.  Students will also be well-served to notice what is missing in this exemplar and how the student could have used more graphic novel terminology combined with more interpretation and analysis of those choices

Finally, as a heads up, we’ll start publishing Paper 1 exemplars near the end of October and into November and December from the May 2022 examination session.
