Upload Time

It is that time of the year when teachers are in the final throes of uploading work for the Group 6 subjects. For music, it is staggered into three phases: 1) Exploring Music in Context (March 15), 2) Experimenting with Music and the Contemporary Music Maker (April 20th), AND 3) Presenting Music (April 30th). This blog offers a few thoughts on the process and what teachers should bear in mind.

Dealing with Stress

It can be a stressful time dealing with the uploads, as we are rather reliant on technology. Here is an important reminder:

1. Ensure that the size of the CMM is less than 500MB. This is stated in the system (IBIS), but not anywhere in the Guide or the Teachers Support Materials

We have found that Handbrake (click HERE) is a good option to consider, as it does not seem to compromise the quality of the video. It is also endorsed by Cambridge Assessment

Here is a pdf that has been produced by Cambridge that offers a step-by-step guide on how to reduce the size of files with compromising quality.

Course Authentication Form - Required for Each Music Student

Remember that with the final upload for Presenting Music (April 30th for the May assessment and October 30th for the November assessment), you will also need to submit the Coursework Authentication Form.

This is available on MyIB or directly from your IB Coordinator. See Submission Requirements - Complete Overview  for a complete summary of all the deadlines (to the IB) for both May and November schools.

This document serves as a summary of the work undertaken over the course of the diploma and it is an official document that you need to sign to verify that the work that you have seen is authentic.

You will need to meet with your students at least THREE times during their course (either formally or as a check-in) to determine the progress made. It is often best to do this at the start of a unit (inquiry phase), during one (action phase) and at the end of one (reflection phase). Further details appear on the form itself. It is also recommended that you factor these meetings into your curriculum documentation.
