New Study Guide for 1st exams in 2025
Saturday 10 June 2023
The new edition of my IB Chemistry Study Guide has now been published by Oxford University Press. This is the fourth edition of my Study Guide. The first edition was published in 2001 for first exams in 2003 and was the first IB book to be published in any subject by Oxford University Press. Each time there has been a new IB Chemistry Study Guide the book has been fully updated to cover the new syllabus and in total it has now sold over 200,000 copies.
The new edition contains even more questions with fully worked answers. Although it is aligned with the way the new syllabus is set out, it follows a more traditional teaching route with chapters covering in order: The particulate nature of matter, Atomic structure, Quantitative chemistry, Bonding & structure, Periodicity, Classification of organic compounds, Energetics, Chemical kinetics, Equilibrium, Acid & bases, Oxidation & reduction, Electron sharing reactions and Tools for chemists. These are followed by a chapter on the Underlying Philosophy of the IB which includes the Nature of Science, International mindedness in chemistry and Making connections between the topics with the final chapter on How to obtain a high grade which includes coverage of Approaches to learning and studying, The Inquiry process, Internal assessment, the Collaborative sciences project and Extended essays in chemistry as well as the Final examinations.
