Creating student accounts
This page takes you step-wise through creating accounts for all your students in separate teaching groups.
How to give your students access
Step 1
Log in, open the drop down ‘Waffle’ menu on the left of the top headings (next to the ‘home’ icon), and click on ‘Student access manager’
Once you click on 'Student access manager' it will open up to give you five choices: 'My groups', 'All students', 'All tasks', ‘qBank’ and ‘Newsfeed’.
Step 2
Click on 'My groups' (if it has not opened up automatically once you have clicked on ‘Student access manager’). This will show all your existing groups.
Step 3
Set up a new group by clicking on '+ New group'. This will bring up an image asking you to name the new group. I always give the level and the two years they will be studying, in this case SL Chem 2026-2028 but you can call them what you like and also add a description if you want.
Step 4
Click on Next and it will bring up the invitation for you with the URL to share with to all the members of your new group.
Step 5
Invite students to join the group by copying the unique URL that appears.
Step 6
Give this URL to your students. Once they open the page on their laptop, phone or tablet etc. they will need to follow simple instructions, by creating a password etc., to be able to join the group.
If they already have an InThinking student account for one of their other IB subjects your students can access all their subjects once they have logged in using the same password. You might wish to consider adding yourself as a student to the group as then you can easily log in as a student and view exactly what your students can see (although you can browse as a student anyway if you click on 'View as a student' when you access your groups).
If students do not already have a password they just create a new account.
Step 7
Student use of site.
Once the students activate their account they will see all the subjects they have access to. It will also tell them which tasks are pending and which are completed. The image below is for the comparable HL group and shows that the HL student (Janet) has one pending task
Clicking on the subject will take them to their home page.
Note that now if there are any pending tasks the ‘paper and pen’ icon has a red asterisk. Clicking on it will bring up the pending task(s)
Clicking on any of the six main headings will take them to the pages they require (see Navigating the site).
Note that the only pages your students will be able to access are those in ‘Student access pages’ with the default “ON”. They do not have access to any of the pages under the top heading of ‘Teacher only pages’ or any pages in the ‘Students access pages’ with the default set to “OFF”.
Now they can access the student pages at any time simply by logging on to https://student.thinkib.net/chemistry and entering their password.
