Paul spent most of his early adult life playing around in chemistry laboratories at the University of Warwick, finally graduating with a PhD in mass spectrometry. A brief sojourn into the world of ‘the office’ before university convinced Paul that education was infinitely more entertaining than any other career, and he began teaching after completing a PGCE at King’s College London.
Paul has held a wide range of different posts in education, including IBDP Coordinator, Head of Science, and Assistant Head in schools. He has also lectured at university, served as Chair of Governors, and served several years on the advisory board at the University of Southampton School of Chemistry. He has a wide range of experience in examining, including writing, marking, and moderating, and is also an experienced IBDP workshop leader.
Currently, Paul teaches IBDP chemistry part-time at Varndean College, Brighton, UK and works as a consultant project manager for InThinking. Paul has taught Chemistry (and Theory of Knowledge) within the IBDP for 25+ years.
He has always enjoyed rugby and occasionally comes out of retirement to play (touch rugby only these days)! Until the next injury again persuades him that the touchline is the safest place to be. His fascination with cooking and food is intrinsically linked to his fascination with chemistry but somewhat more tenuously linked to his interest in sharks. Friends often accuse Paul of singing too loudly and being irritatingly optimistic and cheerful (except in the face of marking). He finds keeping fit increasingly difficult but perseveres through regular outdoor swimming and walks with the dogs across the South Downs.
