Getting started

This page explains how the site covers both the 2014 syllabus for last assessment in November 2024 and the new 2023 syllabus for first assessment in May 2025. It also explains that each is again essentially split into two separate sites. One which only teachers can access and one specifically for students, which both teachers and students can access.

Welcome to the IB InThinking Diploma Chemistry website

The two main purposes of this site

The site essentially is split into two separate sites. One is specifically for teachers and aims to provide everything that a teacher needs to cover the whole course comprehensively with a particular emphasis on teaching students to think critically. The pages are written for teachers and contain no material that can be seen by students unless the teacher authorises it. The second site is free to all students to subscribing schools provided the teacher has signed them up to student access. Other than tests or assignments that teachers may wish to give to their students before they see them, students have direct access to all the pages in this 'Complete course for students'. They can use this site to further their understanding of IB chemistry as they work through the course and to revise(UK)/review(USA) towards the end of the course.

There is a particular complication for the current period. Those chemistry diploma students who started their two-year course in 2022 (or very early 2023) will be following the 2014 chemistry guide where the last assessment is in November 2024. Those students who started their two-year course in 2023 will be following the 2023 guide where the first assessment is in May 2025. These two courses are very different in approach, content and assessment. The following links Getting started: teachers and Getting started: students will guide both teachers and their students in choosing the correct parts of the sites to use.
