New Study Guide published today
Thursday 14 August 2014
My new Study Guide for the 2014 programme (first examinations in 2016) is published today. The previous editions, which cover the 2007 programme, were (and still are) extremely popular with students and have sold over 100,000 copies. The new edition follows the same format in providing all that is needed to gain a Grade 7 in the internal and external assessment. It follows the outline of the course sub-topic by sub-topic and provides many worked examples. As well as multiple choice questions on each topic at the end of each core/AHL chapter, the new edition also contains short answer questions with fully worked answers given at the back of the book. In addition there is also a chapter on the underlying philosophy which covers essential ideas, the nature of science, theory of knowledge, international mindedness and utilization. The four options are covered fully and are accompanied by short answer questions with fully worked answers. There is also a chapter on achieving a high grade and another on Extended Essays in chemistry.
If you look at the pages I have done for each sub-topic under teaching the new programme on this website, e.g. 4.4 Intermolecular forces, you will see that I have referred you to the relevant pages in this new Study Guide. This provides the essential material that students need to know for their final examinations. What this book does is give teachers the freedom to use their own examples and in some cases go further than the syllabus requires in order to explore students’ questions etc. You can do this safe in the knowledge that if you tell your students to make sure they fully understand the material given on each topic in the Study Guide they will have covered the programme comprehensively.
